OFFICIAL RULES:

Eligibility

Anyone can enter the Rewind Kindly Filmmaking Challenge. There are no age restrictions and entry is open to amateurs and professionals alike. No one helping with the film, however, can be paid.

What happens when you sign up?

After you sign up for the REWIND KINDLY Filmmaking Challenge, your Filmmaking Frenzy registration will be linked to the 2008 REWIND KINDLY competition and you'll be able to access all filmmaker areas of the website. You will also be emailed with instructions for submitting your film.

Film Content:

There are no restrictions to the content of the film except for these basic rules:
1) All films must be between 2 and 6 minutes long, including credits. The bumper video tag (see 4 below) does not have to be included in the 6 minute time limit.
2) All films should be a condensed low-budget remake of a well-known hollywood film. You can choose any film you like, film titles are not being assigned.
3) The films can contain violence or nudity but in keeping with Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission regulations, we cannot allow anything that would be deemed pornography. You may not harm real animals or unwilling people in the making of your video.
4) All films must include the Filmmaking Frenzy video tag at the end of the film. You can download this bumper video tag in AVI or MOV format.
Other than these rules, there are no other restrictions regarding video content or music.

Missing the Time Limit:

In past years we let the time limit slide by a couple of seconds here and there. That WILL NOT BE THE CASE THIS YEAR. We don't care if the film was done but then your computer crashed. We don't care if you made it back to the meet up party but you're still holding your laptop in your hand and waiting for it to spit out the burned DVD. Factor the time to export and burn your DVD into your plan, because with the prizes at stake this year we won't budge an inch. If you miss the time limit by a second or a day, your film will still be able to screen with your group's initial screening, but it will not be eligible for any awards no matter how insanely awesome it is.

Online Posting:

No film may be posted onto YouTube or anywhere else on the Internet until AFTER the initial screenings. If we find your video online before all of the initial screenings have ended, your movie will be disqualified. After the screenings we'll be posting videos to our site, but you will be free to post them to your own sites as well. To be eligible for any contest-specific and year-end filmmaking frenzy prizes, all films uploaded to any site only must include the filmmakingfrenzy.com video tag at the end of the feature film. This video will be available in full-resolution AVI or MOV from this website.

Judging

All films that are completed before the time limit will be eligible to win. We'll have a jury of panelists at the initial screenings who will rate each film on a 1-10 scale and at the end of the screenings the films with the highest ratings will go on to the Awards Ceremony. There will also be an Audience Award and the top two Audience Award winning films will also be invited to the Awards Ceremony and be included in the running for the Grand Prize. Final winners will be announced at the awards ceremony and will be updated to the website by 8am CST on the following Monday morning.

Tickets to the Screenings

As registration for this Frenzy is free, there are no free tickets for competing team members at the Rewind Kindly audience award screenings. Teams invited to the Awards Ceremony will receive 4 comp tickets to that show. Tickets for all screening are limited, we advise early advance purchase if you would like to ensure admission to any of the shows.

"Best of" screening and awards ceremony:

The "Best of" screening will be held at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema South Lamar in Austin, TX. As this is an international competition, filmmakers do not have to be present to win.

Prizes:

The grand prize winning film will receive a brand new AMD-powered quad-core supercharged PC editing system with a 30" Dell monitor. Second prize will receive a 17" Dell laptop.

Finished film format:

When you turn in your film we'll need a Playable DVD (any region) that includes the video bumpers that we will provide on the website. If you are FTPing your film from out of town, we can except any full screen AVI or MOV files.

Ownership of the finished film

The filmmakers have the rights to the finished videos. However, FilmmakingFrenzy.com reserves the right to broadcast the videos, include scenes from videos in future promotional materials, and include videos in DVD compilations.
